MSSA is committed to increasing the presence of and fostering the success of faculty and students of color. Through the Committee on Racial and Ethnic Minorities (CREM) students and faculty can access applications to assist in travel funding to present their work at upcoming MSSA annual meetings. The CREM also publishes an official newsletter, Nuances, which includes information for students and faculty as well as award recipient recognition, call for papers, and announcements from committee members.

2024 Travel Scholarship

Program Description
The Mid-South Sociological Association and the Committee on Minorities is pleased to announce the availability of travel scholarships for support in attending the 2024 50th annual meeting in Nashville, TN  (October 2024). These scholarships will be awarded on a competitive basis. Each scholarship recipient will be offered up to $250 to defray expenses associated with travel to the MSSA meeting.

Eligibility and Application Requirements
To be eligible for the scholarship, the applicant must be:

  • A faculty member, graduate student, or undergraduate student from/attending a Historically Black College or University (HBCU), Hispanic Serving Institution (HIS), Tribal College or University (TCU), or Native American serving, non-tribal institution; or a faculty member or graduate student that identifies as a member of an ethnic or racial minority group that is currently employed at any college or university located in the Mid-South region.
  • An active participant of the annual meeting: presenting a paper, poster, or participating in an invited panel
  • A member of the Mid-South Sociological Association at the time of the award.
