MSSA Forum Spring Issue 2

Greetings everyone,
With the spring semester winding down, I wanted to remind you of the exciting plans for the 2013 MSSA Annual Conference (October 23-26 in Atlanta, GA).  The conference theme “Action Sociology:  Opportunities in a (Post)Modern World promises to raise a range of questions for us as sociologists to consider as we contemplate whether the science of sociology can or should have an explicit focus on the connection of research and action as well as the consequences of an interventionist and non-interventionist sociology within a democratic society and the impact of intervention and non-intervention.  Program Chair and President Elect Tim Gongaware is pulling together an impressive itinerary of events.  As with any organization it takes a  community to make  it effective.  I encourage each of you to help spread the word about the exciting opportunities the Mid-South Sociological Association has to offer (The Call for papers, the Graduate Student Paper of Distinction, Undergraduate Student Paper Competition, The Stanford Lyman Memorial Scholarship, and The Stanford Lyman Distinguished Book Award).   To that end, I’ve created the attached fliers to help spread the word.  As a dedicated member of the association you can help by posting in your department and sending the attached flier to any and all interested parties.   Thank each of you for all you do to make this organization and our upcoming meeting successful.
