That’s right, only TWO WEEKS until the 39th Annual Mid South Sociological Association Conference. Alright, maybe I’m a little over excited, but having had the chance to help create the conditions for everyone to bring together paper sessions, panels and workshops has been a real joy. The people in our organization and our region are incredibly bright and do some fascinating scholarship. Of course, I’m also a bit eager for other activities such as the sponsored breakfasts, the receptions, finding out who the winners are of this year’s awards, hearing Dr. Rob Benford (University of South Florida) present on Classroots Social Action: From Activist Pedagogy to Student-Led Mobilization for Change AND, about attending the…
- Alpha Kappa Delta Symposium on Teaching an Learning which is Thursday afternoon and Friday morning. Information on the symposium as well as an application to apply for fellowship money to attend can be found. at: http://www.alphakappadelta.org/AKD_Symposium.html. Remember, we have not scheduled any conference sessions during the symposium in order to give everyone a chance to attend. The folks at AKD, including our own Dr. Kimberly Brackett, have put together an excellent examination with a particular focus on learning and I would encourage everyone to consider checking it out. Those who sign up for the event prior to the conference will be receiving an email from AKD at some point next week with some information about the symposium.
Although the preregistration deadline has passed, you can still send in your membership/registration form with the MSSA conference fees, or you can pay at the conference itself. The form to fill out can be found at: http://www.midsouthsoc.org/conference/registration-membership-and-reservations/
Also, if you still need to make Hotel Reservations, I would encourage you to make those reservations before October 11 by going to the following link: http://www.ichotelsgroup.com/redirect?path=rates&checkInDate=22&checkInMonthYear=092013&checkOutDate=27&checkOutMonthYear=092013&brandCode=hi&hotelCode=atlca&GPC=MS1&_IATAno=99801505
