MidSouth Soc Announcements and Final Call for Presenters
Greetings everyone!
The 2012 MSSA Annual Conference is nearly upon us, and the deadline for session organizers to send their sessions to Earl is fast approaching. So, if you have not yet submitted your work for presentation, please contact a session organizer right away (or contact Earl if you can not identify an appropriate organizer) right away. The list of session organizers is below. The deadline for paper submissions is September 10.
The conference this year promises to be a good one and we’re getting very excited. Mobile is always beautiful and makes for a wonderful fall location. The list of sessions looks very interesting and we’re hearing about insightful and intriguing presentations in the works. The dinner banquet has been scheduled on the evening of Friday, November 9, beginning at 6:30 this year and promises to be an exciting time to gather, explore and celebrate the winners of various awards.
Additionally, the deadline for preregistration is quickly approaching: October 8. Although people attending the conference can register when they arrive, if you are an organizer or presenter you must be preregistered for the conference or your name will be dropped from the program. The registration form can be found on the MSSA website’s Conference Registration page:
Finally, please don’t forget about the Stanford M. Lyman Memorial Scholarship which is open to any Ph.D. candidate working on a dissertation in sociological theory, symbolic interaction, race relations, law, or ethics. Applications must be submitted by September 1 to Dr. Stan Hodges: stan.hodges@tamuk.edu
We hope everyone is doing well and look forward to seeing all of you at this year’s conference!!

If you don’t have a closing keynote, this might be a great way to add fun with a very personal sociological message. I do a 45 minute performance that interacts with the audience a lot and talks about what and where confidence comes from (Maslovian based) – and how it causes people to do often stress inducing things to themselves and others. If interested, let me know and I can send more info. Sample video is on my website of the woman’s angle but I also do a co-ed version and its very well received.
